Job Title: Relationship Manager

Reporting To: Managing Director

Main Job Purpose

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you are responsible for the management of client accounts and the implementation of their strategic goals. In addition to ensuring the appropriate delivery of all agreed tactics, you are also responsible for the regular generation of proactive and positive stories and communications ideas which will assist the client to achieve their stated commercial aims. In addition to complete responsibility for the day-to-day running of your accounts, you will track and measure successes, will seek all opportunities to grow your accounts, and will regularly share successes – and any challenges – with the Managing Director.

Key Role Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain exceptional media relationships
  • Develop and maintain exceptional client relationships
  • Fully engage with and immerse yourself in the client accounts under your stewardship, including ongoing reading around hot topics
  • Develop public relations strategies for your clients and ensure the appropriate delivery of these
  • Proactively generate key stories and theme concepts and progress these as appropriate
  • Fully manage all day-to-day public relations activity for your accounts including the generation of press releases and articles
  • Take responsibility for media sell-ins of your stories and regularly review media feedback then make recommendations for all or any changes to tactics
  • As appropriate assume the role of Zen Communications Limited’s spokesperson
  • Work within the agreed client timeframes and provide detailed activity overviews promptly at the end of each month
  • Generate Status Reports at the start of each month in-line with each client’s over-arching commercial strategy and ensure the appropriate and timely delivery of all activity. Where new activity is requested or suggested, manage the workload and workflow by rescheduling as appropriate
  • Provide full copywriting support as required across a range of client projects including, but not limited to, marketing brochures, websites, advertisement straplines and body copy, sales letters, and direct mail editorial
  • Undertake any other related or special tasks applicable to the post as required by the Directors

Essential Skills

  • Solid previous experience in a public relations or marketing communications role
  • The ability to manage multiple accounts and to multi-task
  • Exceptional client management skills
  • Solid experience of devising, running and managing PR and communications strategies
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills
  • Excellent creative writing skills and strong knowledge of grammar and syntax
  • Significant experience of managing and developing relationships with the media, particularly in handling sensitive stories
  • Highly effective IT skills including use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Confident and eloquent in person and in writing
  • Enthusiastic and positive, with the ability to inspire trust in clients, the media and other partners
  • A genuine team player who understands the need to maintain a flexible approach
  • The ability to operate independently and assume full responsibility for actions
  • Respectful of client confidentiality agreements and also when handling sensitive material
  • Committed to developing the role within Zen Communications Limited.
